Professional Experience: Gary Conkling is president and a founding member of Conkling Fiskum & McCormick, a Portland-based public affairs and public relations firm. He splits his professional practice between state public affairs and strategic communications counseling for clients that include general contractors and Oregon winemakers. Gary also has worked as a federal tax and environmental policy lobbyist.

Gary is a former director of public affairs for Tektronix. He worked as staff director in Washington, D.C. for Oregon Congressmen Les AuCoin and Ron Wyden, now Oregon's senior senator. He began his career as a newspaper reporter and editor. Gary has lived in Beaverton since 1982.
